Mesivta Ateres Yaakov Advances to CIJE Tank Finals

The winning project, Burn Blocker Band, is a wearable UV-sensing wristband developed by 10th grade students Nachman Bassalian, Avraham Liviem, Yisrael Liviem, and Akiva Yacobi. The device monitors real-time sun exposure and alerts the wearer when it is time to reapply sunscreen or seek shade — a practical, health-conscious innovation born out of the school's engineering curriculum. The team is led by Mr. Pinchas Fiber, STEM instructor and proud MAY alumnus, who has guided them through the research, design, and engineering process behind their project.

CIJE Tank, modeled after the popular "Shark Tank" format, brings together the top capstone projects from CIJE's Innovation Day competitions held across the country. The grand prize winner will receive the opportunity to work with the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Nathan Renov, to secure a provisional patent for their invention.

The Mesivta wishes a tremendous mazel tov to these outstanding students on this incredible achievement and best of luck as they represent Mesivta Ateres Yaakov on the national stage!
